A Gentle, Grounded Approach to SSRI Tapering
Deciding to taper off an SSRI—such as Prozac, Lexapro, Zoloft, or similar medications—is a significant personal and medical decision. Whether you’ve been on an antidepressant for years or are just starting to question its role in your life, this transition deserves care, patience, and support.
At Little Tree Counseling, I offer non-prescribing, trauma-informed support for individuals actively tapering off SSRIs in coordination with a licensed medical provider. My role is to help you stay emotionally grounded and connected to yourself as your body and brain adjust to change.
Who This Service Is For
This offering may be a good fit if you are:
Working with a psychiatrist or prescribing physician on a planned SSRI taper
Looking for emotional support, structure, and reflection throughout the process
Navigating withdrawal symptoms like irritability, anxiety, or mood shifts
Feeling uncertain or overwhelmed and wanting a steady therapeutic presence
Seeking to reconnect with your inner experience after years on medication
This is not a crisis service or a substitute for medical advice, but rather a complementary therapeutic space designed to support you through a major transition.
A Trauma-Informed Perspective
I understand that for many, SSRIs were a lifeline at a difficult time—and choosing to taper can bring up fear, grief, and questions about what comes next. My approach is gentle, non-pathologizing, and grounded in respect for your autonomy. There’s no rush, no judgment, and no single “right” way to do this. Just compassionate support, one step at a time.
Veterans & Families: Navigating VA Community Care for Mental Health
Free 30-minute consultation
For veterans and family members seeking mental health care beyond the VA system
You Deserve Access to Care—Let’s Make the System Work for You
If you or a loved one are a veteran struggling to access timely, consistent, or local mental health care through the VA, you are not alone. Many veterans—especially those living in rural or underserved areas—find it difficult to get the support they need through the VA alone.
At Little Tree Counseling, I offer a free 30-minute consultation to help veterans and their families understand how to request VA Community Care referrals for mental health services outside the VA system—including trauma therapy, counseling, and integration work with qualified local or virtual providers.
This isn’t therapy—it’s guidance. It’s a conversation to help you understand your options and feel more confident navigating a complex system.
Who This Is For
Veterans who want to see a therapist but face long waits or limited options through the VA
Spouses, partners, and family members helping a loved one find care
Individuals who want ongoing therapy through Community Care with a non-VA provider
Rural veterans who live too far from VA clinics or hospitals
Veterans exploring therapy for PTSD, anxiety, grief, trauma, substance use, or life transitions
What We'll Cover in Your Consultation
How to request a Community Care referral from your VA provider
What to say and what to ask for
How to know if you qualify based on wait times, drive distance, or provider availability
How to find a local or virtual therapist who accepts VA referrals
What kinds of mental health services are covered by the VA Community Care Program
How to prepare for the administrative process and advocate for yourself or your family member
This is practical support, grounded in empathy and real-world experience. I’ve worked with veterans and families navigating this process and know how confusing or frustrating it can feel.
Why I Offer This
I believe that no veteran should go without care due to distance, bureaucracy, or confusion. As someone who supports veterans and is deeply familiar with trauma-informed care, I want to make it easier for you to find what you need. This free session is one small way to help you get started.
